Chen Li 陈澧 inherited the educational academy tradition founded by Ruan Yuan 阮元 and took it as his responsibility to cultivated talents in classics， history， and rhetoric at Xuehaitang 学海堂 and Jupo Jingshe 菊坡精舍. He affirmed the magnificent value and critical function of parallel prose， praised scholars and literati who were both good at classical studies and parallel prose， clarified the characteristics of some previous and contemporary masters， advocated parallel prose writing being based on the works in the Six Dynasties， and paid special attention to the style of parallel prose. What’s more， he showed a passion for parallel prose with his own works in various literary genres such as prefaces and postscripts， letters， miscellanies， elegies， odes， and notes on scriptures. He was good at writing argumentation and expressing emotions， embodying the academic and literary trends of integrating different styles in the late Qing Dynasty and expressing the concerns about the deepening of internal Han and Song accompanied by don’t distinguish parallel prose from prose in the late Qing Dynasty， and expressing the concerns about the deepening of internal and external conflicts. Chen Li and Tan Ying 谭莹 were both in an important position in the development of Guangdong parallel prose， which jointly promoting the rise of Guangdong parallel prose in the late Qing Dynasty. Chen Li， with his command of both classics and rhetorics， made especially significant contribution in guiding students to write parallel prose writing and cultivated famous parallel prose masters such as Tan Zongjun 谭宗浚， Chen Botao 陈伯陶， and Zhang Qigan 张其淦， bringing changes to the environment that Guangdong was relatively indifferent to the Qing-dynasty revival of parallel prose， thus expanding the space of parallel prose and enriching the regional literature in the Qing Dynasty.
