The tripartite framework centered on “reason, matter and emotion”, along with the corresponding literary expression forms of argumentation, narrative, and lyricism, serves as the content classification standard for literature, which, together with the six classics, philosophy and history, and the various literary forms, constructs a multi-layered style classification system. Within the scope of the theory of classic prose, there are also variations in this tripartite division of “reason, matter and emotion”: it emphasizes the duality between “philosophy and history”, namely discussion and narration, and in the context of Qianjia philological studies 乾嘉汉学, textual criticism考据 enters this system as a new element. Poetry may not only encompass the three aspects of “reason, matter, and emotion”, but also represent lyrical literature that corresponds with “emotion” in the entire literary classification system, so there is a dual relationship between poety and “reason, matter, and emotion”. Integrating this classification system primarily based on classic prose not only aligns with the academic historical fact that poetry originates from the six arts, but also enriches the theoretical connotation of this system.
